摘要

FinTech affects many macroeconomic indicators as a combination of innovative technologies that make financial services faster, easier and more accessible. It is crucial for an inclusive labour market to understand the job creation potential of FinTech and its power to transform gender-based inequalities. In this regard, the aim of this study is to analyse the long–run impact of FinTech on youth female and male unemployment rates for Turkey with quarterly data covering the period 2012:Q2-2024:Q1. In the analysis, an inclusive FinTech index is calculated by PCA method and ARDL, FMOLS, DOLS, and CCR methods are used. The findings reveal that FinTech reduces youth female and male unemployment rates. However, the size of this effect is stronger on youth male unemployment rate. Although FinTech is an opportunity for employment in general, it does not offer sufficient opportunities to reduce gender inequality. In this context, it can be stated that the traditional and socioeconomic barriers faced by women also exist in the FinTech ecosystem. In order to reverse this situation, regulatory and supervisory institutions need to develop policies specific to gender equality.
