Dispositional mindfulness, serenity, and cognitive emotion regulation: pathways to mental well-being and stress reduction in college students during the pandemic
摘要
This study investigated cognitive and emotion regulation (CER) as a mechanism linking dispositional mindfulness and serenity to mental well-being (MWB) and stress during the pandemic. We examined how specific facets of mindfulness and aspects of serenity related to adaptive and maladaptive CER, and how these CER patterns could account for their associations with MWB and stress. In a cross-sectional study of U.S. college students (N = 325), both mindfulness facets and serenity aspects incrementally predicted greater MWB and lower stress. They also showed distinct associations with CER. The findings suggested distinct, facet-specific CER pathways through which mindfulness and serenity related to mental health outcomes, underscoring their complementary roles. Clinical implications for integrated mindfulness and serenity interventions were discussed.
