摘要

When dealing with cancer, knowing one’s values can help to reduce psychological burden and to maintain or develop an identity beyond the illness. The Valuing Questionnaire (VQ) measures the extent to which people believe they are living according to their values, an important psychotherapeutic target. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the German version of Valuing Questionnaire (VQ-G) in patients with cancer. The VQ-G was developed and validated using a cross-sectional questionnaire study of an oncology patient sample (n = 211). Convenience sampling within two German comprehensive cancer centers was applied. The factor structure has been assessed with Confirmatory Factor Analysis. For the VQ-G a good model fit for a two-factor structure could be confirmed (χ²(df) = 63.01 (32), p < .001; Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.95; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR)=0.08). Internal consistency of both VQ-G subscales was good for Obstruction (α = 0.82) and acceptable for Progress (α = 0.71). Discriminant and convergent validity were demonstrated, as Pearson-correlations with chosen constructs (among others resilience, mindfulness as well as depression and anxiety) are as expected. While residual correlations of items of the “Progress” factor were allowed to improve the overall model fit, the “Obstruction” factor seemed quite robust with stronger discriminant and convergent associations (-0.20 ≤ r ≤-.70). Overall, the VQ-G is a psychometrically sound instrument to assess values in cancer patients. In particular, the findings on obstructed value orientation can contribute to the specific adaptation of psycho-oncological interventions.
