How core self-evaluations enhance job search self-efficacy in adverse situations: the roles of bricolage and psychological strain
摘要
Existing studies remain unclear on how to enhance job search self-efficacy (JSSE), which plays a vital role in successful job searches, especially under adverse conditions. To address this unresolved challenge, we drew upon the conservation of resources (COR) theory and core self-evaluation (CSE) literature to explore how CSE enhances an individual’s JSSE via dual resource pathways under adverse conditions. We validated our research model using a sample of 709 college students during the COVID-19 pandemic (a quintessential resource-threat context). Our results indicate that individuals can rely on CSE to enhance their JSSE through the mediating mechanisms of bricolage and psychological strain. This research highlights the critical role of CSE in enhancing an individual’s JSSE through resource investment and loss prevention mechanisms and offers new insights and educational practices for enriching an individual’s JSSE under adverse conditions.
