Anti-inflammatory diet, healthy lifestyles, and depressive symptoms in adult patients with chronic kidney disease in china: a cross-sectional study
摘要
Although the anti-inflammatory diet has been linked to diverse diseases, its connection with depression remains inadequately explored. We aim to understand the association between anti-inflammatory diet, lifestyles, and depression in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study used convenience sampling to conduct a cross-sectional survey. From January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2023, a total of 10,540 participants from a health management center of a university-affiliated hospital. Anti-inflammatory dietary was assessed using the anti-inflammatory dietary diversity index (AIDDI), while depressive symptoms were evaluated using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ)-9. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect demographic characteristics and lifestyle factors. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess the association between AIDDI, lifestyle factors, and depressive symptoms. Additionally, subgroup analyses were conducted to validate the stability of the results. A total of 10,540 participants were included in this study. In the fully adjusted model, participants with the higher AIDDI scores had a 20% (OR = 0.80, 95%CI:0.74–0.86, p < 0.001) lower risk of depressive symptoms compared to participants with the lower AIDDI scores. The results of subgroup analysis remain consistent. This study demonstrates that the anti-inflammatory diet is associated with depressive symptoms in adult patients with chronic kidney disease. Clinically, these findings support the use of the anti-inflammatory diet as a readily available tool to identify CKD patients at high risk of depression, enabling earlier psychosocial referral and potentially reducing the disease burden associated with comorbid depression in nephrology practice.
