From the U.S. to China: understanding the factors impacting professional adjustment of Chinese counselors returning home
摘要
More and more Chinese counselors received their professional degree in the U.S. and returned to China for professional practice. However, there is little inquiry into the factors that impact their adjustment process. With a phenomenological approach, this study explored the factors affecting returning Chinese counselors’ professional adjustment upon their return to China by interviewing 12 participants. The impacting factors were categorized into chronosystem, macrosystem, exosyetem, microsystem, and personal factors based on the ecological systems theory. A holistic approach is recommended to facilitate these returnees’ adjustment process.
