摘要

The study explored the interaction between psychological richness and cognitive flexibility in predicting college students’ boredom proneness, as well as the moderating influence of extraversion on this relationship. A total of 647 undergraduates participated in this research. They completed the Psychological Richness Scale, the Cognitive Flexibility Scale, the Short Boredom Proneness Scale and the Extroversion Scale. The data were analyzed using regression analysis, with Models 1 and 3 of the PROCESS macros employed to test the proposed models. The results of this study are as follows. (1) Psychological richness, cognitive flexibility, and their interaction can significantly predict boredom proneness. (2) Extraversion moderates the relationship between the interaction of psychological richness and cognitive flexibility and boredom proneness. Specifically, under conditions of high extraversion, the interaction between psychological richness and cognitive flexibility becomes stronger. Psychological richness and cognitive flexibility, along with their interaction, can reduce boredom proneness among university students, while extraversion strengthens the effect between the two. The results of this study provide a foundation for developing strategies to reduce boredom proneness among university students.
