<p>The emotional memory bias in depressed individuals plays a critical role in depression occurrence and development. While extensive research has focused on the memory bias for emotional information in individuals with depression, most current studies have primarily examined the processing of emotional information in long-term memory (LTM). However, the underlying causes of this bias in LTM processing remain unknown. Numerous studies have revealed that information in LTM originates from working memory (WM). Given the pivotal role of WM in the memory processing of emotional information in depressed individuals, this study utilized ERPs to explore the characteristics of WM bias towards emotional information in individuals with a depression tendency. The results revealed that individuals with depression tendencies exhibited a greater P1 when encoding negative faces and smaller late positive potential (LPP) during the retrieval of negative faces compared to the control group. This suggests their heightened sensitivity to negative stimuli during the early encoding stage and inefficiency during retrieval. These characteristics of individuals with a tendency towards togetherness partially explain the depression-related deficits in WM and the influence of WM processing on LTM formation.</p>
