Publication trends in rational emotive behavior therapy: A bibliometric analysis of the past three decades
摘要
This research endeavors to analyze publication trends in rational emotive behavior therapy over the past three decades, aiming to provide insights into the evolving research landscape and potential areas of future exploration. A total of 784 documents were initially retrieved from the Scopus database (1994–2024); after applying rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, a final set of 459 documents were selected for bibliometric analysis. VOSviewer was used for visual analysis, creating maps of authors, journals, organizations, nations, citations, and keywords. Microsoft Excel tables were used to record the essential details. Findings show publication numbers fluctuated between 1994 and 2018, with a slight increase after 2022, peaking in 2023, suggesting continued growth in REBT publications. The United States and the Albert Ellis Institute are the most prolific country and organization, respectively. Springer is the most prominent publisher. The Journal of Rational-Emotive & Cognitive-Behavior Therapy is the dominant publication, garnering the highest number of co-citations. Turner, M.J., Dryden, W., and Ellis, A. are the top cited authors. Recent trends highlight innovative REBT-based interventions, including music-based REBT/CBT, Rational Emotive Digital Storytelling, and online video games like REThink. Further research should investigate the long-term effects of REBT, particularly its intersection with digital storytelling; explore the effectiveness of digital storytelling in other psychology areas; and focus on personalizing REBT interventions through online platforms for specific groups to contribute to mental health prevention, ultimately empowering individuals and communities to manage their well-being more effectively.
