摘要

The premarital counseling program aims to enhance relationships through effective counseling and communication, thereby fostering happier and more stable marriages. With rising divorce rates, premarital counseling has garnered increasing attention from governments and researchers as a preventive tool to safeguard mental health and well-being. Previous studies indicate that health beliefs about premarital counseling significantly influence participation, yet no standardized psychological scale exists to assess these beliefs. Employing the health belief model (HBM), this study developed the Chinese Premarital Counseling Health Belief Scale (PCHBS) in China using classical test theory and item response theory. Following item bank development, item selection, and psychometric evaluation, the PCHBS comprises 39 items across six subscales: perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy. The scale demonstrated strong reliability (Cronbach’s \(\alpha\) >0.799, McDonald’s \(\omega\) >0.804) and validity (e.g., CFA fit indices: CFI = 0.983, RMSEA = 0.061), offering a robust tool for researchers and practitioners.
