A multigroup invariance analysis of the association between information, communication and technology engagement on students’ reading achievement in public and private schools in the United States
摘要
The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) has substantial information on public and private school access to information, communication and technology (ICT), students’ engagements, and other achievement variables. The 2015 through 2018 PISA administrations included a survey on ICT engagements to assess 15-year-old students’ familiarity and use of ICT. PISA also incorporates surveys on contextual variables that may influence students’ reading achievement. We conducted a multigroup invariance analysis across the public and private school and examined whether students’ interest in ICT, perceived competence in ICT, perceived autonomy in ICT and ICT for social interaction predict reading achievement. Results from the study show significant differences in reading achievement when covariates were included in the model. Implications for research and practice are considered.
