<p>The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between short-video apps use and materialism among adolescents. To gain a deeper understanding of this association, the mediating roles of character identification and flow experience were also examined. A sample of 626 Chinese adolescents participated in the study and completed questionnaires assessing short-video apps use, character identification, flow experience, and materialism. The results revealed a positive association between short-video apps use and materialism. Additionally, flow experience mediated the relationship between short-video apps use and materialism. Moreover, the relationship between short-video apps use and materialism was mediated sequentially by character identification and flow experience. Findings of this study uncover the underlying mechanisms between short-video apps use and materialism, and provide implications for cultivating a healthier online environment and nurturing positive values among adolescents.</p>
