<p>The present study aimed to integrate both cognitive and personality perspectives to explore the relationship between social exclusion and social anxiety among Chinese college students, and the mediating roles of fear of negative evaluation and rejection sensitivity. A total of 627 Chinese college students from Tianjin, China, participated in this study (male = 137, female = 490, Mage = 19.69, SDage = 1.41). The present study employed a questionnaire survey, which consisted of the Social Exclusion Questionnaire for Undergraduates, the Interaction Anxiousness Scale, the Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale, and the Rejection Sensitivity Scale. This study used SPSS 24.0 for statistical data analysis and the SPSS macro program PROCESS was employed to explore the mediation role. The findings show that (1) Social exclusion has a significant positive relationship with social anxiety; (2) Fear of negative evaluation mediates the relationship between social exclusion and social anxiety among Chinese college students; (3) Rejection sensitivity mediates the relationship between social exclusion and social anxiety among Chinese college students; (4) Fear of negative evaluation and rejection sensitivity act as the chain mediators between social exclusion and social anxiety among Chinese college students. In conclusion, this study enhances the comprehension of the underlying mechanisms of social anxiety from both cognitive and personality perspectives. Moreover, it offers scientific evidence and valuable insights for identifying the risk factors of social anxiety and carrying out relevant intervention efforts.</p>
