<p>This study investigated the effect of collaboration on metacognitive monitoring across third-, fifth-, and eighth-grades. Adopting the collaborative memory paradigm and metacognitive monitoring paradigm, participants completed a recall test individually or with a collaborative partner of the same age and gender. Additionally, participants were asked to make item-by-item ease of learning (EOL) judgments before studying and item-by-item judgments of confidence (JOC) after recalling to assess their metacognitive monitoring. The results showed that compared to children, adolescents exhibited more accurate EOLs and JOCs in both the nominal and collaborative groups. This indicates that the absolute accuracy of EOLs and JOCs may improve with age. Furthermore, the collaborative group made more accurate EOL judgments compared to the nominal group. These findings emphasize the developmental progression of metacognitive monitoring and the positive role of collaboration in enhancing EOL accuracy.</p>
