The Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) is widely used as a self-reported measure of behavioral and psychological characteristics associated with overeating. The initial validation study by Varlamov et al. (2020) provided an incomplete psychometric characterization of the Russian version of the DEBQ. So, the aim of the study was to determine new psychometric properties used to describe the internal structure of the questionnaire and to assess the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the scales, as well as their convergent validity. The sample included 530 students (mean age: 20.8 ± 3.5 years) who completed online the DEBQ and the Yale Food Addiction Scale. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses confirmed the three-factor structure of the questionnaire and the bifactor nature of the emotional scale. Reliability assessment revealed that the test-retest reliability and internal consistency of the external scale were lower than those of the emotional and restrained scales. All types of analyses, including descriptive item statistics, found problem items on the external scale that were more likely to be due to cultural differences or sample characteristics. In addition, it was shown that consumption of unhealthy foods was associated with emotional eating and external eating behaviors. Thus, the study expanded knowledge of the psychometric properties of the Russian version of the DEBQ. The findings from the Russian studies characterizing individuals with external eating behaviors should be considered with caution.
