The current situation and influencing factors of social adaptation of hearing impaired middle school students: a qualitative research

The thematic analysis method was used to examine the social adaptation of hearing-impaired middle school students, in order to provide empirical evidence for efficiently improving their social adaptation ability. The results indicate that the current situation of social adaptation among hearing-impaired middle school students is that overall career adaptation ability is relatively low, interpersonal adaptation ability needs improvement, and self-regulation ability needs to be enhanced. The main influencing factors are learning methods, learning initiative, expectation level, communication skills, and the support of important others. The new findings of this study are as followings: the middle school students with hearing impairments have diverse ways of emotional regulation and have good emotional regulation effects; the junior middle school students with hearing impairment have their own unique understanding of ‘friends’, and may have already regarded ‘character’ as the foundation and core of ‘friends’.
