Life satisfaction after stroke and the associated factors across age groups in China: A cross-sectional study
摘要
The study aimed to investigate the relationship between stroke patients’ life satisfaction and activities of daily living (ADLs) categorized by the Longshi scale across age groups and to identify the predictors of life satisfaction in these age groups. This was a multicenter, cross-sectional study. It involved interviewer administered face-to-face survey completion in 93 hospitals, nursing institutions and community rehabilitation centers in China. A total of 5680 hospitalized patients with stroke completed the questionnaire. Overall, 22.3% of the participants were satisfied with their lives. There were no differences in life satisfaction among the three age groups. Life satisfaction gradually increased as the ADL level categorized by the Longshi scale increased. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that higher life satisfaction across the three age groups was associated with participation in social activities, higher ADL levels categorized by the Longshi scale, a good state of health, and the duration longer than 1 month. Additionally, high life satisfaction in the old-old group was associated with living with family, having a lower education level, and having a first-ever stroke. In conclusion, life satisfaction in patients with stroke was similar across age groups. The ADL level was positively related to better life satisfaction. More attention should be paid to enhancing the health status and social activity levels of patients with stroke. Furthermore, preventing stroke recurrence is important in older stroke patients.
