<p>Sino-EU cultural exchange has reached new heights over the past 50&#xa0;years, while it is facing increasingly practical problems, such as limited cultural interaction, lack of mutual cultural trust, and growing cultural divides. These issues fully reflected the historical and current cultural interplay between the two sides within a growing complicated and tense international situation. Consistently changing Sino-EU cultural relations not only shaped bilateral cultural exchanges but also raised greater concerns about cultural security on both sides. This is mainly because both sides have experienced certain changes in their understanding and perception of the bilateral cultural relations. To address the current challenges in bilateral cultural relations, both sides need to foster new thinking and understanding. Excessively focusing on the form and intensity of cultural exchange may endanger cultural security, while overemphasizing cultural security may lead to doubts and even restrictions on cultural exchange. This paper attempts to explore new ideas and measures to deal with the complicated cultural relations between China and the EU, and the key lies in truly respecting cultural diversity and inclusiveness based on multipolarization of civilization, viewing the changes of their respective strengths and identities objectively, and seeking a balance between cultural exchange and cultural security.</p>
