<p>Transgender porn is a popular yet under-researched genre of pornography, featuring a population that experiences fetishization, dating violence, and harassment. However, the relationship between transgender pornography consumption and attitudes toward transgender persons has never been investigated empirically before. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of transgender porn viewers on online platforms (n = 1504) to identify the population’s demographic features, beliefs about sex and gender, transgender political views, and interest in dating transgender people. Results indicated that this population is more open to dating trans people and more politically supportive of trans people than the broader population. We employed linear and logistic regression to test for relationships between transgender porn consumption and measures of gender essentialism, opposition to pro-trans policies, and willingness to date transgender persons. For cisgender men, greater trans porn consumption was associated with more gender essentialism, opposition to policies that support transgender persons, and greater willingness to date transgender persons. For transgender women, the same relationship emerged for gender essentialism and political opposition but was unrelated to dating interest. For cisgender women and other genders, transgender porn watching did not predict gender essentialism, dating interest or political opposition. Small effect sizes are present in all relationships. The gendered nature of pornography and its relationship to effects of porn watching are discussed. </p>
