Pornography Use, Sensation Seeking, and the Importance of Meta-Analytic Replication

Over the last decade, scholars across the social sciences have repeatedly implored authors to conduct and reviewers to prioritize the publication of replication studies. As scholars who have conducted multiple quantitative research synthesis studies, we believe that meta-analytic replications are an important element of replication science. To further interest in replication assessment via meta-analysis, the present article describes how two independent meta-analyses investigating the association between pornography consumption and sensation seeking arrived at parallel results. These findings are contextualized within the broader literature on the replicability of findings on pornography use and effects. Finally, we call for heightened awareness among sexologists about pornography research published in communication science journals.
