Tympanic Membrane Herniation- A Rare Case Series
摘要
Herniation of the tympanic membrane into the external auditory canal as a result of repeated Valsalva Manoeuvre is an extremely rare clinical finding. Three patients, aged between 25 and 65 years, presented with primary complaints of a sensation of fullness in ears, accompanied by hearing loss and tinnitus. All of them were habitual to performing the Valsalva manoeuvre. A herniated tympanic membrane, appearing like a mass in the external auditory canal, was a common otoendoscopic finding in all. A detailed evaluation of these patients included audio as well as radiological investigations, and the patients were treated conservatively, eventually leading to complete resolution of signs and symptoms. Only a few such cases have been reported in literature worldwide, and they have all been all managed with surgical intervention so far. This case series includes three such patients who have been managed conservatively, leading to complete resolution of all symptoms.
