Reactive Thrombocytosis in a Case of Cervical Necrotizing Fasciitis: A Warning Sign
摘要
Reactive thrombocytosis manifests as a result of abnormally high platelet counts in response to an underlying pathology. However, its occurrence in necrotizing fasciitis due to odontogenic origin is rarely documented. We report a case of a 62-year-old male patient with cervical necrotizing fasciitis of the neck secondary to an untreated infected odontogenic keratocyst in the mandible who exhibited a transient high level of platelet count for a few days, which resolved spontaneously. Early recognition and timely management helped to prevent further complications.
