Outcome Analysis of Conservative Management and Sialendoscopy in Inflammatory Salivary Gland Disorders
摘要
To prospectively study the efficacy of sialendoscopy, its effectiveness as a salvage procedure, success rate over conservative management and impact on patient oral health related quality of life in inflammatory salivary gland pathology in tertiary care hospital, all the 69 patients initially underwent medical management. Those who failed were randomly divided into sialendoscopy group and second conservative management. Finally all the patients failing medical management (conservative group first and second) underwent sialendoscopy. A pre allotment and post management objective assessment was done using OHIP and COSS questionnaire and statistically analysed for significance. Out of 69 patients, 14 (20.28%) experienced a successful outcome after 1st Cx management, 54(76.3%) had failed. Out of these 54 patients 39 (39.0%) were put in sialendoscopy group while 15(61.0%) opted for 2nd Cx management. Out of 55 sialendoscopy (primary sialendoscopy + failed 1st and 2nd Cx management.) 51 were successful while 4 failed. Comparison of these two groups has been summarized in Table 1 and is statistically significant. Patients with inflammatory salivary gland disorders must be given advantage of sialendoscopic procedures. It is a good and minimally invasive tool for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in expert hands. Organ preservation is an added benefit.
