A Thrilling Encounter with Petrosquamosal Sinus during Cortical Mastoidectomy: Our Surgical Experience
摘要
The petrosquamosal sinus is an emissary vein traversing the petrosquamosal suture. Though it involutes in late foetal life, its persistence is clinically significant. It connects the intracranial dural venous sinuses to extracranial venous drainage system. The present case is that of a 30-year-old male with bilateral chronic otitis media, who underwent cortical mastoidectomy with tympanoplasty. Profuse bleeding was encountered intraoperatively, which was later determined to be due to a persistent petrosquamosal sinus. The case report underscores the significance of radiology and clinical identification of petrosquamosal sinus, given its multitude of symptomatology and the surgical challenge it poses.
