Unravelling the Enigma: Surgical Management of Shamblin III Complex Carotid Body Tumour Without Embolisation and Stenting
摘要
To report a case of carotid body tumor (CBT) involving 360° encasement of the carotid artery, managed successfully with surgical resection without embolisation or carotid stenting. A 45-year-old female with left-sided CBT underwent preoperative imaging and surgical excision by a multidisciplinary team. Tumor dissection was performed with meticulous vascular and neural preservation. Complete excision was achieved. Postoperatively, the patient experienced transient lower cranial nerve palsy, which resolved within six months. Histopathology confirmed paraganglioma. Surgical resection remains the mainstay of CBT treatment, emphasizing the importance of detailed preoperative planning and skilled surgical execution.
