<p>To evaluate hearing preservation (HP) post cochlear implantation (CI) with pure tone audiogram (PTA) in prelingually deaf children after CI usage and to correlate it with the angular depth of insertion (aDOI). In addition, the literature on the feasibility of a PTA vis-à-vis the use of auditory steady-state response (ASSR) for HP estimation will be reviewed. 44 children underwent a PTA with conditioning before and after CI. The study used electrodes implanted by the mastoidectomy posterior tympanotomy approach. Stenver’s view X-ray was used to calculate the aDOI. HP was computed using the Skarzynski formula. The Spearman rank correlation coefficient was used to calculate the correlation between the HP and aDOI. 100% of patients had HP at 250&#xa0;Hz and dropped to zero at 8000&#xa0;Hz. Complete HP (CHP) was seen in 7/38 patients. The mean HP was 35.64%. There was a negative correlation between HP and aDOI (-0.14). The overall mean aDOI was 384.37degrees. The results validate PTA in evaluating HP post-CI, which concurs with other studies using ASSR. It confirms that PTA is a good and reliable investigation for estimating HP.</p>
