<p>Febrile seizures (FSs), the most prevalent type of childhood seizure, occur in 2–5% of children between the ages of 6 and 60 months. Recent literature indicates a rising prevalence of cognitive deficits in children with simple FSs. Thus, given the established link between cognition and auditory processing, this study evaluated the impact of a history of simple FSs on central auditory skills in school-age children. This Retrospective Cohort study included 50 children aged 7–12: 25 with a history of simple FS and 25 without simple FS. We measured the effect of simple FS on central auditory processing skills using the Persian words in noise (P-WIN) and Persian competing words (P-CW) tests. In addition, we specified the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) required for 50% correct word recognition on the P-WIN test in children with and without a history of simple FSs. Children with a history of simple FS had significantly different mean P-WIN and P-CW scores compared to children without a history of simple FSs.&#xa0;Moreover, the mean SNR-50% scores were also significantly different between children with and without a history of simple FSs. This study indicates that a history of simple FSs in early childhood impairs central auditory processing skills, such as perceiving speech in noise, in school-age children.</p>
