<p>Chronic Otitis Media(COM) with dry perforations is quite a common presentation to tertiary care teaching centres. It is important to close such perforations in such patients in order to improve the hearing and to protect the middle ear from external infections. Scaffolding to the healing margins of the perforations is the primary aim of surgery of which myringoplasty is an operative procedure commonly being done. Different types of material have been tried for scaffolding of the tympanic membrane and each has its own merits and demerits. To date, the application of silastic sheets for the repair of small to medium-sized perforations has not been explored. This study aims to study the outcome of silastic sheet as a scaffold in healing of tympanic membrane and also to look into the improvement in hearing. 100 patients with small and medium sized perforations of the pars tensa were included in the study. Silastic sheet was placed over the remnant tympanic membrane after freshening the margins and the patients were observed for a period of 12 weeks post procedure. The mean age was 33.52 years and amongst the patients with Small Central Perforation (SCP) and Medium Central Perforation (MCP), the Air Bone gap closure was 10.91 ± 3.18dB and 11.99 ± 5.65dB respectively. The majority of patients in both SCP (90.0%) and MCP (77.4%) groups achieved complete healing at 6 weeks post-surgery. The results were comparable with other studies available in literature.</p>
