<p>Mothers with ‘Hearing-impaired’ (HI) children struggle with many psychosocial issues. Addressing their stress from a biopsychological perspective is pertinent in rehabilitation process. The study aims to understand the problems and life effects in mothers with HI child using the ICF framework. Using a prospective survey design, 84 mothers with HI children participated in the study. Two open-ended, problem question (PQ) and life effect question (LEQ) were administered to collect the data. Responses were coded by three coders and were linked to codes in ICF categories. Bland-Altman analysis revealed high inter-coder reliability. 361 responses were related to problems faced and 318 were related to life effects. 12 responses did not fit into any of the ICF categories. The analysis revealed that participants experienced more difficulties in PQ than LEQ. Most of the responses were related to activity limitations and participation restrictions, followed by body function. This highlights the stress-induced limitations are more in day-to-day activities than on biological health. ICF coding also showed that mothers with HI children encounter challenges in many domains, which are otherwise largely ignored in conventional rehabilitation.</p>
