Background <p>It is a complete objective and subjective comparative study of pre-operative and post-operative evaluation of patients with the surgical cause of nasal obstructive disorders using Rhinomanometry and Rhinoendoscopy to assess the surgical outcome.</p> Methods <p>A total of 50 patients suffering from nasal obstruction who did not respond to medical treatment were taken up for this study, who underwent respective correction surgery and were evaluated pre and post-operatively using rhinomanometry and rhinoendoscopic procedure. The results were noted into following groups: (A) Pre and postoperative comparison of rhinomanometry findings. (B) Pre and postoperative comparison of nasal endoscopic findings. (C) Pre and post-operative comparison of SNOT 20 (Sino- Nasal Outcome Test) findings.</p> Results <p>All patients noted an improvement of subjective nasal patency after surgery and 76% patients had midline septum after 3 months post-surgery by endoscopic evaluation. We found that it was important that rhinoendoscopy could evaluate the structural and mucosal changes in the nasal cavity pre and post-surgery whereas rhinomanometry was helpful in evaluating the changes in the nasal airflow or nasal resistance at any portion of the nasal airway.</p> Conclusion <p>In our study both rhinomanometry and rhinoendoscopy have similar precision and are useful for measurement of both time course and magnitude of response but rhinoendoscopy is chiefly to assess anatomical changes while rhinomanometry gives a functional assessment. SNOT 20 gave a valuable insight in the subjective assessment to corroborate our objective assessments.</p>

Background
