Objective <p>To assess the prevalence of self-medication and Over-the-counter drug use for common ENT diseases in a metropolitan city in South India.</p> Methods <p>A cross-sectional study was conducted across Bengaluru, India. A validated questionnaire was used to assess the prevalence of Self-medication and Over-the-counter drugs use in common ENT diseases.</p> Results <p>46.1% of the participants sought medical help within 3–7 days of illness. 70% consulted a doctor for their illness voluntarily, while 20% did so only after persuasion from family or friends. 81% of the participants gave priority to ear disorders, while only 66% and 59% gave priority to nose and throat disorders respectively. 77% of participants believed that steam inhalation and 53% of participants believed that nasal decongestants cure a blocked nose respectively. Whereas, only 37% thought that cough drops/lozenges cure a sore throat. The participants show poor knowledge regarding the composition of the over-the-counter medications. However, their prevalence in their home medical cabinets was reported to be alarmingly high.</p>

Objective
