The Curious Case of the Missing Larynx: A Case Report
摘要
Laryngotracheal trauma is a challenging emergency faced by otolaryngologists worldwide. The unstable, unprotected airways further add to the commotion.
CaseWe present a case of a chronic intravenous drug abuser, who walked in the emergency with what looked like a laryngectomized neck, except that he had no recollection of the preceding events. A low tracheostomy was performed. The massive defect was closed by performing a surgical debridement, pulling up the remnant lower trachea, creation of an end stoma and primary pharyngeal closure. A feeding jejunostomy was done for alternate enteral feeding. The case was interesting with regards to the disproportionate signs and symptoms and the bizarre history of how the preceding events were nearly untraceable.
ConclusionLaryngotracheal traumas are tricky emergencies to deal with, therefore, timely intervention can salvage the patient and reduce the burden of morbidity.
