Saga of Scar- Post Thyroidectomy: Subcuticular Suture Versus Adhesive Strips in Wound Closure in High Altitude Area

Aesthetic outcome of the surgery gives a mental boost to the patient post surgery. It help in motivated post op healing phase with better surgical satisfaction which is more so over important in harsh northern climatic terrain with limited resources for the medical services. This study focuses on comparison between subcuticular sutures and sterile tissue adhesive strips aesthetic outcome in thyroidectomy wound closure using validated scoring system (POSAS).
MaterialsThis study conducted in a secondary hospital- situated in valley of kashmir, teaching hospital on patients > 18 years of age undergoing thyroidectomy.
ResultsStudy includes106 patients from the northern foot hills which were randomised into two groups with comparable baseline parameters.
ConclusionCosmetic benefit and aesthetic outcome between both techniques were similar. Sterile tissue adhesive strips had less pain and excellent scar appearance following thyroidectomy surgery.
