Hacking the resilience code: How digital intelligence improves manufacturing industry resilience?
摘要
In the volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) era, the manufacturing industry is facing multiple challenges such as resource and environmental constraints and accelerated technological innovation. Digital intelligence, serving as a fundamental engine of the ongoing industrial revolution, is poised to function as a critical pathway for bolstering manufacturing industry resilience. This paper is designed to elucidate the impact mechanism between digital intelligence and manufacturing industry resilience. The analysis is grounded in Chinese provincial panel data from 2012 to 2022, and a fixed-effects model is utilized to ensure rigorous empirical testing. Empirical results confirm that: (1)A substantial contribution of digital intelligence to the enhancement of manufacturing industry resilience. (2) Digital intelligence mainly indirectly improves manufacturing industry resilience through green technology innovation. (3) The moderating role of green human capital in the digital intelligence and manufacturing industry resilience as being characterized by a U-shaped curve. (4) The establishment of China’s Artificial Intelligence Innovation Development Pilot Zones is beneficial to enhancing manufacturing industry resilience. (5) The findings reveal that the manufacturing industry resilience benefits derived from digital intelligence are not uniformly distributed across regions. Its potency is significantly greater in the eastern and western regions, areas east of the Hu Huanyong Line, and regions characterized by medium and low resource endowment and a large scale of internet user base. The research offers a pathway for the manufacturing industry to capitalize on digital intelligence, strengthening its resilience and facilitating the attainment of China's goal to become a premier manufacturing country.
