Mean age of the participant was 74 years and 74% were female and 91% Chinese. Social media users accounted for 78.4%. Mean eHL score was 22.2. Co-resident with the grandchildren (aOR = 2.24,95%CI 1.15–4.36, p = .01), secondary school and above education (aOR 2.59, 95% CI 1.55,4.34, p < .001) and social media use(aOR 12.82, 95% CI 5.37,30.6,p < .001) were predictors of higher eHL whereas ethnic Malays (n = 19) have lower eHL (aOR 0.36, 95%CI 0.13–0.99, p = .05). Higher eHL was associated with more frequent use of digital technology for heath and care purposes. Qualitative analysis revealed social media as common carrier for information and enriched eHL skills to bring about healthy ageing through health promoting apps and digital platforms. eHL influenced digital technology use for heathier lifestyles. Individually eHL was shaped not only social and cultural factors but also by apps and internet environment. eHealth literacy (eHL) is essential for pursuing digital health information, which in turn facilitates digital health service access. Although Singapore faced dual challenge of rapid ageing and digital transformation, knowledge on eHL of Singaporean older adults is limited. This study investigated influencing factors of eHL among older adults in Singapore and explored how digital technology has been used for health. A community survey, applying a mixed-method explanatory sequential design was conducted with 361 participants aged 65 and older. Familiarity with mobile apps and social media is crucial for promoting eHealth literacy among Singaporean older adults. Future interventions should leverage social media and mobile apps for including older adults in digital health environment in Singapore.
