<p>Today’s family policy formally addresses parents in a&#xa0;gender-neutral manner—yet the actual significance these guidelines hold in everyday life is not determined by the wording of the law alone. Family policy objectives must be interpreted, communicated and negotiated in practice. This is precisely where parent-focused counselling services become increasingly important. They not only serve to support families, but also function as normative spaces where ideas about motherhood, fatherhood and the gendered division of labour are shaped. Counselling thus becomes a&#xa0;central interface between family policy governance and everyday family life.</p>
