摘要

The article explores professional approaches to working with young people influenced by right-wing extremist or völkisch-nationalist ideologies in the context of open youth work in Eastern Germany. The findings indicate that practitioners do not regard right-wing orientations merely as a youth phenomenon, but as expressions of broader social and political dynamics. The paper highlights tensions between setting boundaries and maintaining openness to dialogue, as well as gaps in practitioners’ descriptive understanding of young people’s lifeworlds and structural challenges such as staff shortages and project-based employment. It argues that democratic education within open youth work should not be limited to reacting to anti-democratic statements but must be developed as a strategic, everyday practice. To strengthen youth work as a democratic experiential space, structural conditions are needed that foster continuity in relationship-building, collegial exchange, and methodological advancement.
