<p>This article uses empirical insights from research into child protection practices to discuss the question of which criteria are used to determine what, when and how a&#xa0;case for socio-pedagogically responsible child protection is made. It becomes clear that the answers are more complex than suggested by professional theory models and that, in addition to professional knowledge, biographical experiences, social norms, organisational, temporal and spatial arrangements are also important.</p>
