Children whose parents are imprisoned often face unique challenges and need special support to deal with the situation and move on with their lives. Added to this are the precarious living conditions, traumatizing experiences and lack of emotional or personal life prospects. Up to now, both practice and science have focused on a person’s delinquent behavior instead of addressing the lack of networking between child and youth services, correctional facilities and work with offenders and their families.
