Zwischen Internationalisierung und Indigenisierung sozialer Dienste

This article examines the complex developments in social work in Egypt and their significance for the development of the profession in an international context by analysing the local adaptation and transformation of care models and the legal framework in a non-Western context using the example of Egypt. By reconstructing the implementation of Western child and youth care models in Egyptian social work practice, this article illustrates the adaptability and appropriation of international concepts in this context. A systematic evaluation of care models in Egypt and their influence on policy and practice adaptation provides exemplary insights into the importance of research and evidence-based practice in social work. In addition, the legal changes to equalise the treatment of parentless children are presented as an example of global efforts to protect children’s rights. The core argument of this article is that the experiences from Egypt can also inspire German-language research and contribute to the further development of culturally sensitive approaches in an increasingly diverse society.
