Stigma Sucht
摘要
The article provides insights into the stigmatisation of addiction, presents it from a social and historical perspective and highlights the persisting impact of the idea that addiction is a weakness of character. Prejudices against people with addictions also often exist within the healthcare system. The negative consequences of self-stigmatisation, such as impaired well-being and less willingness to seek help, are also discussed. Finally, potential approaches to reducing stigmatisation are explained, including informative communication, promoting direct contact and conscious language choices.
