The taboo subject of addiction not only affects addicts, but also their children well into their adult lives. If addiction is a taboo in the family, this leads to isolation and makes access to help more difficult. The stigmatization of addiction is an obstacle to treatment for addicts. As a result, affected children are denied the opportunity to build trusting relationships and receive help. The destigmatization of addiction can only be achieved if those affected are heard in society and in politics without prejudice. Although a campaign to destigmatize addiction funded by the Federal Ministry of Health was decided in 2017, it has not yet been implemented. This is another reason why NACOA Germany has proclaimed the motto #schlussmitdemstigma during the COA Action Week 2023. The most powerful tool is to help the children of addicted parents to talk about addiction and its effects. NACOA Germany is committed to this. #wirsindmillionen is therefore the motto of the COA Action Week 2024.
