Catalytic study of ZnO nanoparticles for the removal of pharamaceutical waste and industrial dyes
摘要
In the present study, the photocatalytic response of zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs) to degrade pharmaceutical waste (Doxorubicin), methylene blue and crystal violet dye is presented. The co-precipitation method was used to prepare zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs. The XRD data verified the formation of ZnO NPs with a crystallite size 22 nm. FE-SEM results depicted the formation of agglomerated ZnO NPs. The particle size of the ZnO NPs was found to be in between 20 and 150 nm, as measured through TEM analysis. The optical properties of the prepared NPs were studied through UV-visible spectroscopy. The photocatalytic response of ZnO NPs was investigated by absorbance spectra against considered pollutants. Impact of catalyst amount, pollutant concentration and time duration on the photocatalytic degradation was studied. The degradation of doxorubicin, CV dye and MB dye when exposed to ZnO NPs in UV light was found to be 86, 89 and 31%, respectively. The study shows that ZnO NPs has outstanding potential to degrade pharmaceutical waste (Doxorubicin), methylene blue and crystal violet dye pollutants.
