Assessment of landslide occurrence and prediction of susceptible zone based on GIS along national highway 37, Manipur, India

Mass movements in the form of rock, debris, and earth are affecting mountainous areas worldwide. The present research is dedicated to identifying areas at risk of landslides along National Highway 37, a vital corridor that links the states of Manipur and Assam. To create a comprehensive database of regions impacted by landslides, a combination of on-site field surveys, satellite imagery, and Google Earth was employed. Categorization of the road stretch polygon has been done into five vulnerable zones based on “frequency ratio, Shannon’s entropy, and weight of evidence” models. The AUC and landslide density methods have been utilised in the process of validating these models. The overall maximum accuracy of 86.95% has been observed for frequency ratio model which is more than weight of evidence (84.98%) and Shannon’s entropy (80.47%) models. The existing model based on information value method was 0.81 showing 81% overall prediction rate. This map will contribute for upcoming developments to facilitate public in terms of safe transportation and infrastructure.
