<p>This note describes an alternative approach to obtaining the electric field due to a Hertzian dipole antenna. In this approach, the electric field is solely determined from the potentials—the electric scalar potential and the magnetic vector potential—unlike the classical approach given in the textbooks, wherein the electric field is determined from the magnetic field. The proposed method is normally not seen in the textbooks on electromagnetic field theory and antennas, so it is expected that this approach will enlighten the readers with more insights into these fields of study.</p>
