Microscale Technique for Elemental Analysis of Synthesized 2- and 4-Substituted Halopropane-1,3-Diones (β-Diketones)

Propane-1,3-diones, also known as β-diketones, are important chemical intermediates. They are key building blocks in preparing core heterocycles and chelating ligands for several metals. In this study, a new class of 1-(5-bromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(2, 4-dichlorophenyl)propane-1,3-dione and 1-(5-bromo-2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)propane-1,3-dione were derived from bromophenol, and this β-diketone was analysed by elemental detection. It is well-known that organic compounds contain some fundamental functional groups that allow for the detection of extra elements. This extra element sometimes decides the functional group of the organic molecule. These functional groups determine the physical and chemical properties of substances. Elemental analysis is a traditional method for identifying the substitute present in an organic compound. The microscale technique to analyse elements uses sodium metal in borosilicate test tubes that are not broken down in water. This article addresses the detection of several elements (halogens) using microscale analysis using sodium metal.
