From quecto to quetta: The Fascinating Evolution of SI Unit Prefixes

The International System of Units (SI) has been updated with new prefixes, ronto and quecto for extremely small numbers, such as those in quantum physics, etc., and ronna and quetta for extremely huge numbers, such as the volume of data stored on servers for the Internet, etc. The authors look back at some milestones reached to the historic decision made at the 27th General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), which was held from November 15 to 18, 2022, at the Palais des Congrès in Versailles, France.
