A multivariate geochemical classification of Archean granitoids (TTGs and sanukitoids): Implications from PCA and K-means cluster analysis

In the present contribution, a multivariate analysis of 1010 samples comprising 646 TTGs and 364 sanukitoids involving PCA, Biplot and K-means (cluster) domain analysis was studied. A new bivariant classification diagram Na2O/K2O ×100 vs. ∑Ni, Cr, and V ppm to classify TTG and sanukitoids was designed, with a line y = 0.4286x + 54.90 separating the fields of TTG and sanukitoids. Among trace elements, the vanadium (V) element behaviour (nature) during crust and mantle melting or crust fractionation conditions marks one of the critical factors in this classification. Overall, the multivariate analysis highlights four major groups: (a) Tonalite–Trondhjemite, (b) Granodiorite, (c) low vanadium sanukitoids, and (d) high vanadium sanukitoids. Further, the minor sub-groups are statistically determined by PCA and K-means domain analysis. Significantly, the individual biplots support the classification of four major sub-groups and their petrogenetic processes are further discussed. Finally, the multivariant results are projected onto a bivariant diagram for better application.
