Assessment of seismic hazard incorporating site-specific study for Assam, Northeast India
摘要
Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA) is a crucial tool in formulating site-specific response spectra to provide valuable insights into local seismic hazard variations. This paper presents a study that considers a classical probabilistic approach incorporating ground response analysis for Assam, Northeast India. The region has been classified into 10 seismic source zones with an updated homogenized and declustered earthquake catalogue for 1891–2022. The regional rupture characteristics (RRC) have been considered for evaluating the maximum magnitude (Mmax) for each source zone, along with the conventional methods. A logic tree approach is considered for the application of ground motion prediction equations. The regional hazard map for Assam is prepared at the bedrock level in terms of peak ground acceleration (PGA) and spectral acceleration (Sa) with the consideration of a global Vs30 model. The PGA values vary between 0.24–0.46 g and 0.34–0.76 g for 475 and 2475 yr of return period, respectively. The hazard curves and uniform hazard spectra (UHS) are also presented at important headquarters in Assam, along with disaggregation studies for Guwahati. Further, borehole data from Guwahati are utilized to evaluate ground responses with proper soil conditions. The surface level of PGA gets amplified significantly to 0.41 and 0.56 g for 475 and 2475 yr of the return period, respectively. Finally, the surface-level responses are presented for Guwahati city, considering the controlling earthquake.
