Quantum-mechanical weak values in qubits: Inflation, deflation and average values

The standard paradigm of ‘weak values’ is outlined, and examples leading to several pathological situations are summarized. A few apparently disturbing features are rationalized via explicit links with eigenvalues and the average values. Specifically, we have found it expedient to choose a complete orthonormal set of post-selected states, and hence a full set of weak values, for discussion in a stationary framework. As an illustrative example, a qubit is chosen to avoid any complex number.
